Travel Itinerary
Nov 28 - Departure from New York
Departure from New York
Day 1 - Nov 29 - Arrival in Reykjavik
Arrival at Keflavík International Airport. Direct transfer to the hotel in Reykjavík by coach (without guide).
Free Day
One of our favorite activities after a long flight is visiting one of the local geothermal pools. You may also be interested in strolling through the old town center, visiting one of its museums, or enjoying a coffee in a cozy café.
Day 2 - Nov 30 - Glacier-capped volcano – Volcanic formations – Northern Lights
Breakfast at your hotel. Your guide will meet you at the hotel reception.
The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is a unique area with a wide variety of geological attractions such as lava fields, volcanoes, glaciers, hot springs, beautiful lava formations, black sand beaches, and caves. Known as the “Essence of Iceland”, this area gathers all of Iceland’s diverse natural landscapes in the peaceful and remote Snæfellsjökull National Park.
In this region lies the Snæfellsjökull Glacier, which you will have a beautiful view of during the day’s tour. This glacier and the natural wonders surrounding it inspired Jules Verne to write his famous novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. Overnight in Reykjavík.
Optional Activity: Northern Lights Hunt by “Super Jeep” – $260 per person
Includes: Tour pick-up/return, guided visit, hot chocolate and Volcanic Vodka, entrance to the Aurora Center in Reykjavík.
Day 3 - Dec 1 - The Golden Circle: National Park and its geological wonders – Geysir – Gullfoss
Breakfast at your hotel.
The day begins with a visit to the fascinating Northern Lights Center. Continue on to Þingvellir National Park, where the world’s oldest parliament met for centuries on the shores of Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest lake.
Drive through farmland areas to reach the Geysir geothermal zone, home to fumaroles and the famous Strokkur geyser, which erupts boiling water every 10 minutes. Finally, visit the two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, a spectacular sight in winter as parts of the “Golden Falls” freeze during this season.
In the town of Laugarvatn, enjoy a tasting of hot rye bread served with delicious Icelandic butter.
Dinner. Overnight in the Golden Circle area.
Day 4 - Dec 2 - The South Coast / Waterfalls – Glacier views – Black sand beach
Breakfast at your hotel.
Continue the journey along the South Coast, one of the most beautiful regions of Iceland to visit during winter. Visit the impressive Lava Centre, an interactive, high-tech, and educational exhibition on volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the geological creation of Iceland millions of years ago. Enjoy the exhibition and a film about Icelandic volcanoes in the center’s cinema.
We will stop at two of the area’s spectacular waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss.
Visit the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, where you will find three extraordinary basalt rock formations rising from the sea.
Cross Eldhraun, vast lava fields created by an eruption in the 18th century, as you continue toward Southeast Iceland. The winter snow transforms the scenery into a truly mysterious landscape.
Dinner. Overnight in the Kirkjubæjarklaustur region.
Day 5 - Dec 3 - Vatnajökull National Park and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
The Largest National Park in Western Europe – Glacier Lagoon
Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will find yourself in a world of glaciers!
Today’s journey takes you to the Vatnajökull National Park region, the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, and the Skaftafell area. At Jökulsárlón, you can enjoy an impressive view of the icebergs floating in the lagoon’s 180-meter-deep waters. We will also visit a black volcanic sand beach known as the Diamond Beach, where stunning blue and white icebergs are scattered across the shore, creating a breathtaking landscape.
Continue to the Skaftafell region, a place of great natural beauty within the vast Vatnajökull National Park. The park is named after the Vatnajökull Glacier, the largest in Iceland, covering about 8,000 square kilometers. After an unforgettable day, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Dinner. Overnight in the Kirkjubæjarklaustur region.
Day 6 - Dec 4 - The Reykjanes Peninsula and the Blue Lagoon
Greenhouse Village – Thundering Waves – Geothermal Peninsula
Breakfast at your hotel. Depart towards the Hveragerði region, located in a geothermal area. Travel through the lunar landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing bath in the famous Blue Lagoon, a natural wonder in the middle of a vast lava field. Its warm, mineral-rich waters offer a unique and rejuvenating experience.
Overnight in Reykjavík.
Day 7 - Dec 5 - Free day
Day to visit Reykjavík and discover each of the narrow streets in the city center.
In Reykjavík, museums are plentiful, showcasing both the city’s history and its vibrant art scene. One of our favorites is the interactive Settlement Museum, dedicated to the first settlements of the late Middle Ages in Reykjavík, where you can see the excavation of a Viking house considered the oldest in the city. Or, discover Iceland’s hidden nature in an unusual way at FlyOver Iceland, an exciting interactive experience.
Stroll along the city’s main shopping street and explore its art galleries, handicraft, and design shops. Take a walk along Reykjavík’s scenic waterfront and enjoy the sea views. Visit one of the local geothermal pools or relax with a coffee in a cozy café. There are endless ways to spend a wonderful afternoon in the world’s northernmost capital.
Enjoy one last sunset in Reykjavík on your own.
